Jan Tomšič is a hidden gem of the Slovenian music scene. He was born in Berlin, in 1973, to a German mother and a Slovenian father. After finishing high school in Berlin, he spent more than 10 years traveling around the world, studying different musical traditions.
In the year 2000 he settled down in Slovenia and founded a world music band Caminoigra. Caminoigra quickly became well known in the Slovenian ethno music scene and they gained a wide audience and recognition. They released three studio albums (Ishuan, A New Child and Yanu). In the years 2004 and 2005 Jan collaborated with a renowned contemporary dancing teacher Frey Faust. In his dancing classes Jan performed live music, which was improvised and carefully composed in real time to meet the needs of the dancers and the moment. |
In the years 2013 -2014 Jan got one of the leading roles in the prominent musical Warhorse (Stage entertainment). As a songman he played in more than 300 performances.
After returning once again to Slovenia, Jan founded several new successful projects such as the world fusion band Yanu, the conscious dancing project Ethno disco and the contemplative world music solo journey Yatanu. He released three solo albums: Ananisis, Yatanu and Yatanu - Second Wave. At the moment he is exploring new musical horizons with his bands Caminoigra and Yanu and in his solo project Yatanu. |
